Financing & cultural challenges to getting more green energy adoption?
Question by Jason M: Financing & cultural challenges to acquiring more green power adoption?
I'm curious to hear what some of the financing & cultural challenges are to obtaining traditional energy firms to adopt green technologies? In particular, I know that a lot of green power sources require significant up-front investment today to capture the advantages of potentially grid-parity kwh production in the future.

DJ Big Jacks? Black Magic ? Mix of the Week
Thanksgiving is about getting together with family and friends, endless hours of football, four-day weekends, and most importantly, stuffing your face. So for this holiday edition of Mix of the Week, we present to you this lovely modern soul mix that?s essential for both for cooking with the family and the inevitable board games/food-comas that follow. DJ Black Jack?s eighty-minute set is a collection of soul, funk and old-school R&B that starts out comfortably smooth, builds to an excitable peak of funk and boogie-laden foot-tappers, and then mellows into a soulful groove before closing with Don Blackman?s cozy love anthem ?Holding You.? Other highlights include a rendition of Natural Four?s ?You Bring Out the Best In Me,? the sexy, bedroom crooning of Marc Sadane on ?One Way Love Affair,? and R&B duo Ren & Angela?s ?Imaginary Playmates.? As for the rest of the tracklist, you?ll have to do some digging ? Big Jacks? has kept it a secret for now. All this means is that you?ll have an excuse to quiz your parents on their good ol? days. Extra points if you can get them to dig up some of their old records for you while they?re at it.

Ovens, water heaters, TV's, computers, phones and all electronics demand electricity. In the future, ovens will not use electricity rather, they will use other abundant sources of power. The energy may be at no cost.
Will the source of energy be cost-free not like electricity from PG&E? If not, then why?

?Arrested Development? returning with new episodes on Netflix
?Arrested Development? returning with new episodes on Netflix
Posted by Cory Bergman on November 18, 2011
Wow, big news for Arrested Development fans (including myself). The show is coming back with new episodes, but not on a TV network: Netflix has ponied up the cash to bring the show back, starting in 2013.
Variety reports that Netflix beat out Showtime for the rights, and all the major stars of the original show have expressed interest in returning to TV, although no deals have been made. However, the status of the Arrested Development movie is back in doubt.
This makes a ton of sense for Netflix. AD, as the kids call it, has been one of the most replayed TV shows in history ? always a favorite pick on both Netflix and Hulu. Plus, Netflix desperately needs a shot in the arm after its series of recent missteps. But perhaps the most interesting element of the show ? which was never realized in its pre-social media years at FOX ? is that it?s made for social. The show?s short quips, wacky characters and bizarre moments, combined with its Twitter-wired stars, will make it a social TV favorite ? despite the fact it won?t be on network TV.
Netflix struck the deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine. ?Bringing a classic show back to production on new episodes exclusively for Netflix customers is a game changer, and illustrates the incredible potential the new digital landscape affords great content providers like Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine,? said Peter Levinsohn, Fox Filmed Entertainment?s President of New Media & Digital Distribution.
I can hardly wait, and I?m warming up my Twitter fingers with millions of other AD fans for the big re-premiere of the Bluth family ? this time, on a ?new network? delivered to my TV set via an internet connection.

ΔG < 0, the reaction is spontaneous
ΔG = 0, the reaction is at equilibrium
but what exactly does equilibrium mean?
So why is Gibbs free energy zero for phase changes at constant temperature and

iPhone Case Helps Take Lomographic Photos
If you bought an iPhone 4S becuase of the improvements to the camera, and you also like fiddling with apps like Instagram, this new iPhone case may be right up your alley. The Holga Lens Filter case brings you the effects of the famous Lomography Holga camera, without breaking the bank. It's pretty cool to look at, too. Simply turn the reel and cover the iPhone lens with your desired filter, and you get instant old-school-style, colorful snaps.
Transform Unwanted Cameras Into a Digital Lomo One...
[Photo: Blue Ant Studio]Rather than disposing of all your unwanted cameras, why not take the best parts of each and mergethem into one? That's what Blue Ant Studio has done in creating this digital lomography camera. The camera, named DigiLomo, is incased in a classy wooden and aluminium frame, but its innards are from a five megapixel Vivitar Vivicam and Olympus OM series lens. The result is a selection of beautiful images that aren't far off from those you'll get from an original lomo camera. Check out Blue Ant Studio's blog for photo examples and the process of making DigiLomo.
... Or Into Handy Lights
[Photo: Jason Hull]Do you collect old cameras that don't really work but look beautiful? Jason Hull picked up a load of vintage cameras and added lights to them, making incredible night lights. Jason removed all of the camera's innards, and attached a light and plug. According to Jason, he doesn't transform any camera that's still in good working order, preferring to use those for, you know, taking photos. You can take a look at his camera nightlight collection on Flickr.
Lightbulbs Take a Step Back in Time
Speaking of lights, Panasonic has created an LED lightbulb that is not only efficient, but is cleverly designed--it just won a Good Design Award. Perhaps its success can be attributed to the fact the company went back to basics, Edison style, with the bulb's appearance. Of course, unlike a traditional bulb, it uses less energy as well as being able to withstand being turned on and off a lot more. It also uses clear glass allowing it to emit more light. Get more information on why this bulb is particularly cool and photos on DesignBoom.

CNN launches a new, more social iReport
CNN launches a new, more social iReport
Posted by Natan Edelsburg on November 14, 2011
In August, CNN celebrated iReport?s 5th anniversary and announced a redesign of the site was in the works. The redesign is here with the goal to create the largest ?social network for news,? according to Lila King, Participation Director at CNN who heads up iReport.
Both individual iReporters profile pages and group pages have gotten major updates, making them easier to navigate the different pieces of content (photos, videos, etc) that a user has contributed to an ?assignment.? King also described her excitement around the fact the iReport will be less hidden at ireport.cnn.com and there will now be many more opportunities to contribute to an assignment while accessing content across all of CNN?s content.
Katie Hawkins-Gaar, a Senior Producer at CNN who works on the iReport team described three of the main new social features, which she said they?ll publish a blog post with more detail tomorrow:
Three of the biggest changes are the personalized homepage, which populates based on what groups you?re part of and which iReporters you?re following; the new story pages with BIG beautiful photos and video; and groups that are organized around topics where you can find out about new assignments based on what areas you?re interested in.
Here are a few major facts about the reach of CNN?s social news network:
- CNN?s iReport has more than 955,000 registered ?iReporters? (Source: iReport Server Log Data) with an average of 2.5 million unique users each month through September 2011. (Source: ComScore).
- iReport experienced its highest traffic day on June 11, 2008 with 2.8 million page views (Source: Omniture.)
- In its history the community has brought in 994,615 videos and photos with an average submission of 15,591 iReports each month on iReport.com. (Source: iReport server log data.)
- Reports are vetted for CNN with the same rules as any other kinds of footage from CNN staff, affiliates, stringers, story subjects and other parties.
- Typically CNN vets between 5 and 10 perce nt of the iReports that are received, though the number and percentage varies widely based on the news cycle.
- CNN has received an iReport submission from every country in the world.
